CONSERVATION & COMMUNITY SUPPORT
We cannot win all of the wars that are raging between man and nature, however, we can fight the battles that are close to us. I have selected a handful of conservation initiatives that are close to my heart, and that I know can make a difference. Whether it is $1 or $1000, it doesn’t matter. What does matter; is that by your contribution and support you have started your journey of understanding our purpose of doing absolutely anything we can to give nature a fighting chance.
MENTORSHIP
I have witnessed many different generations of guides and lodge managers come and go over three decades. With this, I have buried what failed, and cherished what worked.
Life at a lodge is not easy, and guiding is not as glamorous as it seems past the khaki uniform, gratuities and incredible sightings.
I left the training providers to do what they do best; laying the foundations of guiding. I however, took up the unique opportunity to mentor (not train) in developing the EQ of guides in lodges, to mould their perspective in to one of opportunity and longevity.
BIO
Finally, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Michael Karantonis, I am an individual who cannot believe how my life has unfolded itself into something I used to dream of as a kid. I started as a trainee ranger/guide and worked my way up to a specialist guide for an incredible safari organization over twelve years. I then became a co-owner of a bespoke travel company, running the private guided and specialist safaris division of the company for a further twelve years. During this time, I traveled and guided in 11 different African countries and wildlife hotspots.
I spent ten years on an advisory committee with a philanthropic organization to engage in the reality of needs within Africa’s communities.
One of my greatest honours, was to be presented with the lifetime achievement award from the Field Guides Association of South Africa for my positive impact on the guiding fraternity.
I am currently coaching and uplifting guides around the country, presenting perspective workshops, privately guiding safaris, and assisting many people from around the world with plans to travel our incredible continent.
